What is it?
Families First is a temporary assistance program (TANF) for families going through financial difficulties. The Families First program provides a wide range of benefits to assist families and support them in their recovery. To receive Families First, families must agree on a Personal Responsibility Plan (PRP) and a work plan. The PRP requests that recipients make sure their children receive immunization shots and health checks; attend school, including kindergarten, regularly; cooperate with child support requirements; and agree to work or attend a work preparation activity, if for some reason they are not exempt. Teen parents under age 18 must stay in school and attend classes regularly, and live at home with a parent or responsible adult. What do you get? The program provides a wide range of benefits such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, childcare, transportation assistance, dental care, optical care, vehicle repair, and employment assistance. A family of three can receive up to $185 in Food Stamps, Medicaid and childcare depending ontheir income. How long do you get it? The limit for lifetime assistance is 60 months. |
